Live Underground Music

It has been far too long since any news (or anything for that matter) has been posted, sorry. Quick explaination? Being laid off and unemployed sucks. Times are rough, but some code has been hammered out recently. Wrote a new class to help speed up dev (70 lines to 7), and am currently working on a new music player. Still working out a few issues, writing functions for it, etc but dev for the site isn’t dead.

We hope all of you are out enjoying the end of 2008 and welcoming in 2009. Maybe Jen or I will see you at a party =)

New Upload System is LIVE!
We here at Live Underground Music (LUM) have been putting in OT and are ringing in the New Year with a new upload system. It may not look great at the moment, but I assure you, this new upload leaves the old form in the dust. I’ll resume work on updating the system along with other aspects of the site after the new year and my move is complete.

If you encounter any issues with the new upload component or anything on the site, please use the contact us page / form and let us know what is going on.

Updates are probably going to freeze for hopefully just a few days while I move. After getting setup in the new place I’ll try to resume work near the same pace as the last week.

Added a page for Bands by Genre. It still needs a lot of work but basic works for initial design. I’ll update it later to display how many songs that band has, etc.

Added a music player to the band profiles. It will only load in that bands songs. The “Launch Player” link will still launch the original player, with all the music in one interface.

So I spent some of my Xmas coding a url change for the site. Band profile pages will now link as /band/Band+Name instead of the ugly id=# An example of this is
www.liveundergroundmusic.com/band/A+Birdsong+Valentine
While you’re on their profile page reading the info, check out the track “Knowing the Problem”. You can download the song from their profile or listen to it in the player. Additionally, the Band name will be displayed in the title bar. (I used their profile as the profile preview in the last post by the way.)

In other news, www.TheLUM.com is being updated too! You’ll soon be You’re now able to tack on additional info to go to the page you want. Such as www.TheLUM.com/blog will take you here. You can use it for linking to bands as well such as www.thelum.com/band/The+Jank Ah, short urls =)

The uploader is still being worked on, a few things from the template css styles are being messed up. At the moment it’s trial and error fixing.

Well one one and a half to be exact… band profile pages are now live. They may not be perfect, but hey, I’m not a CSS expert and I’ve been spending most my time on the upload system. Anyway, hit the music page, click on a band name and check out any info they provided.

Worked on the profile code a little bit, getting back into the code structure due to the break while at school. Added reCaptcha to create band page. Changed a little code to clean up user info so no extra slashes \ are shown on the profile page (description).

The bug I was having issues with and looking for, for our upload component has been found. I’ve started testing with the fix (will be fixed in next beta) and will continue testing for the custom changes LUM requires.

Was sifting through the database and noticed that quite a few songs have been downloaded and listened to via the player. Hopefully we’ll have more stuff up soon.

Yep, still dealing with finals (last week, w00t).

Started testing with the new uploading component. I’ve started testing the examples and have a portion of it working but trying to figure out a bug introduced by the latest release, however progress is being made.
